Scripture: “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” – Colossians 3:2
The Struggle Is Real... and on Instagram
Let’s be honest—social media is a double-edged sword. It can connect us, inspire us, make us laugh… and then, just as quickly, it can steal our joy, distract our minds, and sow seeds of comparison.
As moms, we’re already stretched thin. One moment we’re rocking a baby to sleep, the next we’re scrolling past a perfectly curated playroom that makes our laundry-strewn living room feel like a mess. It’s not that we’re not grateful—it’s just hard not to feel like we’re falling short.
But God didn’t call us to be perfect. He called us to be present.
What’s Driving the Scroll?
Before we open an app, maybe we ask: What am I looking for right now?
Is it connection?
Validation?
A break?
Inspiration?
These aren’t bad things. But they become burdens when we look for them in the wrong places.
The Bible reminds us to “set our minds on things above.” That doesn't mean we can’t use social media. It just means we use it intentionally, not mindlessly. We turn to God first, not as a last resort.
When Comparison Creeps In
Comparison is often the thief of joy, but it’s also the thief of mission. When we’re busy measuring ourselves against someone else’s highlight reel, we lose sight of the sacred work in our own home.
God didn’t give your children to that influencer. He gave them to you.
You are the mom they need.
Using Social Media with Mercy
Here are a few gentle boundaries you might consider to reclaim peace in your scroll:
Time limits that protect your mental space
Accounts that uplift your spirit, not trigger insecurity
Unfollowing with grace—you can love someone and not follow their content
Posting with purpose, not pressure
And most importantly—pray before you post, scroll, or share. Ask God to guard your heart and guide your mind.
Mom Takeaway:
You are not behind. You are not missing out. You are not too much or not enough. You are doing holy work.
Whether you’re online or offline, your worth comes from Christ—not likes, shares, or comments.
Let mercy guide your motherhood, and let grace rule your scroll.
