Peace in the Storm

Standing on the beach this weekend with my son (we snuck away for the weekend to watch his favorite soccer player in the playoffs down in Miami!) waves crashed loud and steady against the shore. The wind whipped strong — almost too strong — but in that moment, I felt something familiar and grounding.
I closed my eyes and whispered a quiet thank you, Lord.
Because even in the chaos — the full-time work, the sports schedules, the constant motion — His presence never wavers. Like the tide, He is steady. Like the wind, He moves through every part of my life, seen and unseen.
“Though the storms may come / And the winds may blow / I’ll remain steadfast … I will praise Your name.”
That verse from Promises by Maverick City Music echoed in my heart as I stood there. (if you’re ever in the middle of feeling overwhelmed, I highly recommend downloading this song and listening to it on repeat. Instant mood changer!) The same God who commands the sea also commands peace over my heart — even when the noise of life feels relentless.
I’ll be honest — I don’t always stop to listen. Some days, peace feels like something I have to chase. But God keeps reminding me: You don’t have to chase what I already give freely.
So I’m learning to create space for stillness, even in the small ways:
Taking a deep breath before I open my email.
Whispering a prayer while waiting in the car line.
Listening for God’s voice over the sound of the world.
These moments may not look like long, quiet devotionals — but they’re real, sacred pauses where my heart reconnects with His.
And on that beach, I realized — the same waves that roared loud in front of me also carried His peace beneath the surface. That’s how He works: constant, powerful, and full of mercy, even when life feels wild.
So wherever you are today — in motion, in noise, in the middle of the storm — take a breath. God is there too.
Being near the ocean, seeing the waves and hearing them roar, is the perfect to place to feel His presence. Your feelings put into words are inspiring.
